TRN Number in the UAE: What It Is and How to Check It

What a UAE Tax Registration Number is, where it must appear, and how to verify a supplier's TRN on the FTA website.

General information, not tax advice

This guide explains UAE Tax Registration Numbers in plain English. It is not tax advice, and the rules and FTA systems can change. Confirm your obligations with the Federal Tax Authority (FTA) or a registered tax agent before you rely on it.

What a TRN is

A Tax Registration Number (TRN) is the unique 15-digit number the Federal Tax Authority (FTA) gives a business when it registers for tax. It identifies the business in every VAT return, invoice and dealing with the FTA. Taskmoro is not affiliated with the FTA; this is general information.

Who has one

  • Every business registered for VAT, whether it registered because it passed the AED 375,000 threshold or chose to register voluntarily. See the UAE VAT registration guide.
  • Businesses registered for Corporate Tax or Excise Tax, which are linked to the same taxable person profile on EmaraTax.

Where your TRN must appear

  • On every tax invoice you issue. Your customer's TRN is needed too, if they are VAT-registered. See the UAE VAT invoice guide.
  • On every tax credit note.
  • On your VAT returns and correspondence with the FTA.
  • On customs declarations, once your TRN is linked to your customs registration number.

How to find your own TRN

It is printed on your VAT registration certificate. You can also see it in your EmaraTax dashboard after logging in with UAE Pass.

How to check someone else's TRN

Before you pay a supplier's tax invoice or claim the VAT back, check that the TRN on it is real. The FTA has a free checker:

  1. Go to the FTA website.
  2. Open TRN/TIN verification, listed under Other Links.
  3. Enter the 15-digit TRN (or a 10-digit TIN) and the code shown on screen.
  4. Click Submit. The result shows whether the number is registered and the business name it belongs to.

If the name doesn't match the supplier, or the number isn't found, ask the supplier to explain before you pay. VAT on an invoice with an invalid TRN may not be recoverable.

Common TRN mistakes

  • Typing the number with a digit missing or swapped. It should always be 15 digits.
  • Charging VAT before your registration is approved and your TRN is issued.
  • Putting your trade licence number in the TRN field.
  • Using an old TRN after a change of legal entity, or after deregistering.

Adding your TRN to an invoice

In the invoice generator, enter your TRN in the business tax/VAT number field and your client's TRN in theirs. Set the document title to "Tax Invoice" and add 5% VAT to each line.
