Tip Calculator
Work out the tip, the total and each person's share of a bill, with an option to round each share up.
Rounds each person's share up to the next whole amount.
Each person pays
110.00
Amounts are shown without a currency symbol, so you can use any currency.
How to use this calculator
Enter the bill amount, pick a tip percentage or choose Custom to type your own, and enter how many people are sharing the bill (1 to 50). The tip, total and share per person update as you type. Turn on rounding if you would like each share rounded up to a whole amount.
How the calculation works
Tip = bill × tip % ÷ 100. Total = bill + tip. Per person = total ÷ number of people.
With rounding on, each share is rounded up to the next whole amount, and the extra collected is (rounded share × number of people) − total.
Example: a bill of 100 with a 10% tip is 110 in total. Split between 3 people, that is 36.67 each. Rounded up, everyone pays 37 and the group collects 1.00 extra.
Scope and common mistakes
The calculator splits the bill evenly. If people ordered very different amounts, work out each person's part separately.
- Tipping twice: check whether the bill already includes a service charge.
- Leaving the tip at a preset when you meant to type a custom percentage.
- Forgetting that rounding up collects a little more than the bill and tip.
How do I calculate a tip?
Multiply the bill by the tip percentage and divide by 100. A 10% tip on a bill of 200 is 200 × 10 ÷ 100 = 20, so the total is 220.
How much should I tip?
It depends on the place, the service and local custom, and some bills already include a service charge. This calculator does not recommend an amount; pick the percentage you want to give.
Should I tip on the amount before or after tax?
Either is common. Enter the amount you want the tip to be based on: the subtotal before tax, or the full bill including tax.
What does rounding up each share do?
It rounds each person's share up to the next whole amount, so nobody has to pay in coins. The calculator shows how much extra the rounded shares collect compared with the exact total.
Can I use this calculator for any currency?
Yes. Amounts are shown without a currency symbol, so enter the bill in your own currency and read the results in the same currency.
