What this calculator does
Packs of the same product are often sold in different sizes, so the shelf price alone does not show which is cheaper. This tool converts each pack to a price per kilogram, per litre or per item and shows how much more each option costs than the best value.
How to use it
- Enter the price of each pack.
- Enter its size and choose the unit printed on the label, such as g, kg, ml, L, oz or items.
- Add more items if you are comparing more than two, then check the best value and the comparison table.
Formula
The unit price is price ÷ size, after converting the size to a common unit. Weights are compared per kilogram, volumes per litre and counts per item.
For example, 500 g for 12.50 is 25.00 per kg, while 1 kg for 22.00 is 22.00 per kg, so the larger pack is 12% cheaper per kilogram.
Common mistakes
- Comparing a weight with a volume. Grams and millilitres are only equal for water-like products, so the calculator keeps them separate.
- Confusing ounces (weight) with fluid ounces (volume).
- Buying a bigger pack that will not be used before it expires; the cheapest unit price is not always the cheapest purchase.
Limitations
The result compares price per unit only. It does not account for quality, multi-buy offers that need a minimum purchase, loyalty discounts or delivery charges. Fluid ounces use the US measure.
Can I compare packs in different units?
Yes, as long as they measure the same thing. You can compare grams with kilograms, pounds or ounces, and millilitres with litres or fluid ounces. Weights cannot be compared with volumes.
Which currency does it use?
Any currency. Enter every price in the same currency and the result is shown in that currency.
Is anything I enter saved?
No. The comparison is calculated in your browser and nothing you type is stored or sent to a server.
