Who this calculator is for

This calculator covers the standard UAE federal private-sector working-hours regime under Federal Decree-Law No. 33 of 2021. It may not apply to you if you are:

  • Employed within the DIFC
  • Employed within the ADGM
  • A government employee
  • A domestic worker, who is covered by a separate regime
  • Covered by another special employment arrangement

How UAE overtime is calculated

Normal working hours are up to 8 hours a day or 48 hours a week. Overtime is generally limited to 2 extra hours a day. Overtime pay is based on your basic salary only — allowances are excluded.

To estimate your hourly rate, this calculator converts your basic salary to a daily wage (÷30) and then an hourly wage (÷8). This is a transparent Taskmoro calculation convention; the official sources listed below do not establish an exact monthly-to-daily or daily-to-hourly divisor. Treat the result as an estimate, not an officially prescribed formula.

Normal overtime pays that hourly wage plus at least 25%. Night overtime (10pm–4am) pays it plus at least 50%, except for employees who work on a shift basis.

Rest-day work is different: it's compensated per day, not per hour. Your employer must give you a substitute rest day, or pay your normal day's basic wage plus at least 50% — this calculator estimates the wage-compensation option.

Worked example

An employee with an AED 6,000 monthly basic salary working 10 hours of normal overtime:

  • Daily basic wage: AED 6,000 ÷ 30 = AED 200.00
  • Hourly basic wage: AED 200.00 ÷ 8 = AED 25.00
  • Base overtime amount: AED 25.00 × 10 hours = AED 250.00
  • Premium (+25%): AED 62.50
  • Total estimated overtime pay: AED 312.50

How is overtime calculated in the UAE?

Normal overtime pays hourly remuneration calculated from basic wage plus at least 25%; overtime between 10pm and 4am pays basic-wage hourly remuneration plus at least 50%, subject to applicable exclusions. This calculator estimates an hourly wage as monthly basic salary ÷ 30 ÷ 8. That divisor is a Taskmoro calculation convention, not a formula established by the official sources listed below.

Is overtime based on basic salary or total salary?

Basic salary only. Housing, transport, bonuses, commissions and other allowances are excluded.

What is the normal overtime premium?

At least 25% on top of the normal hourly basic wage — i.e. 125% of the basic hourly rate for each overtime hour.

What is night overtime?

Overtime worked between 10pm and 4am, paid at least 50% on top of the normal hourly basic wage (150% of the basic hourly rate) — except for employees who work on a shift basis, who are excluded from this specific premium.

Does overtime apply to everyone?

It is designed for general informational use under the UAE federal private-sector employment framework. Different rules may apply in DIFC, ADGM, the government sector, domestic-worker arrangements, pension schemes, or other special employment categories.

What happens if I work on my weekly rest day?

Your employer must either give you a substitute rest day, or pay your normal day's basic wage plus at least 50% (150% of your daily basic wage) for that day.

Are Ramadan working hours different?

Yes. Normal private-sector working hours are reduced by 2 hours per day during Ramadan. This calculator does not apply a Ramadan-specific adjustment, so enter the actual overtime hours for the period.

Does this apply to DIFC or ADGM?

No. DIFC and ADGM are separate free-zone jurisdictions with their own employment regulations. This calculator only covers the standard UAE federal private-sector regime.
